In our day-to-day life we happen to come across a lot of incidents which turn into unforgettable memories and one such incident happened to me six years down the memory lane. I had completed my class 10 exams (which seemed to be a great achievement at that time) and my papa took us on a trip to Shimla (HP), such a beautiful place I must say. First day at Shimla was breathtaking and the next day we went to Manali and Rohtang pass (13000 ft high) which almost took my breath away!
Our driver asked us to start as early as possible so that we could return back soon, as the roads were very narrow. Once reaching ,we decided to try skiing. They provided us all the equipment such as ski boots, ski poles, everything which was needed and along with that they provided a guide too . As soon as we reached the top which was spread like a white grass, I got impressed. My dad tried to ski first and meanwhile I started to pose and my mom was my photographer. The guide bro and my dad were busy skiing and everything was happy go lucky until my turn to ski came up.
The guide bro (who later turned into my life saver!) was cool and had a great sense of humour. He initially taught me the basics and asked me to ski. I was damn scared at the beginning and ceased every 50m. After a while it was so much fun. I lost my fear and imagined myself to be a pro and that's when the chill thrill happened.
Our guide bro went around 500m down a slope and asked me to ski from top. I was like..mummy! catch me on the cam! I'm gonna knock it out like a pro! I started to ski and for first few metres I was yayy!! I'm doing it and after that I kind of lost control of my speed. I got nervous but the guide bro was continuously shouting and cheering me up and when I was on the verge of reaching the destination, suddenly the ice beneath broke and I went inside. Underneath was extremely cold water and my legs went in. I went inside upto my knees and I felt the whack of chillness right upto my head. All this happened within a second and I went completely dumb. I was totally petrified that I didn't even shout for help. My legs went numb and I could'nt feel anything beneath my knees. I closed my eyes and all possible appalling thoughts flashed in my mind. When I opened my eyes our guide bro was at my pit and he pulled me out within seconds. It was shallow and that's how I escaped.
The guide bro told that these kind of incidents are common but only very few cases have been fatal. With God's mercy we returned back to our room safely. I was in a state of shock throughout the day after this horrendous incident.
